There are good reasons why Kienbacher components are fitted in vehicles from BMW, Maserati, Jaguar, Lamborghini, VW, Volvo and others. Our experience and expertise, for example. But also absolute precision, reliability in delivery, a passion for new challenges and a commitment to always striving for the very best solution. Our customers from all over the world appreciate all of this. Some have been with us for over 30 years.

As an Austrian family-run business with a long-standing tradition, we take the liberty of aligning our corporate culture entirely with our customers’ success – rather than with stock market-driven expectations of returns. We have consistently followed this responsible path since Kienbacher was founded in 1965.

In that historic year, not only was the first commercial communications satellite launched, but our company was also founded. It was set up by Oswald Kienbacher Sr. with five second-hand presses and seven employees.

Kienbacher The story
of our success

It is usually our high-quality, bespoke plastic components that speak for themselves. However, before we can begin working together, you need to place your trust in us first. To make this easier, we’d like to give you a brief insight into our history here.

  1. 1971Test title

    Purchase of the company’s first Engel injection moulding machine for the production of thermosets. Further investments followed.

  2. 1980

    Conversion of the sole trader business into a limited liability company (GmbH). It is owned by the Kienbacher family.

  3. 1987

    Oswald Kienbacher Jr. takes over the management of the company.

  4. 1997

    Up until this year, the moulds used have been manufactured exclusively in our own toolmaking department.

  5. 2001

    Certification of Kienbacher GmbH to EN-ISO 9001:2000

  6. 2003

    Relocation to the new site in Bad Hall, Upper Austria.

  7. 2005

    Expansion of the machinery fleet with a 2,700-tonne clamping force injection moulding machine. It forms the basis for the series production of outer skin components suitable for in-line painting in the MAN commercial vehicles division.

  8. 2006

    Entry into multi-component technology. Start of component production for the cooling and air conditioning sectors. Commercial vehicles: module development and module manufacturing. Passenger cars: full automation, filter production for 2,500 passenger cars per day.

  9. 2014

    Delivering to customers worldwide (Europe, the USA, China and South Africa).

  10. 2015

    We now supply 15,400 cars and 380 lorries with our components every day.

  11. 2016

    Certification to ISO/TS 16949. This demonstrates that Oswald Kienbacher GmbH is capable of supplying its customers at all times with the agreed goods in the agreed quantities. This marks the company’s transition to Tier 1 status.

So a great deal has changed since 1965. But not everything. Whilst we now operate from a large production facility covering 4,000 m² and already manufacture more than 900 standard products, we remain a family business in which a personal touch is an important aspect of our day-to-day operations.
